Crochet with twine

I love to experiment with different materials for crocheting. I know a lot of you crochet with cotton thread. But have you tried crocheting with the humble cotton white twine you get in just about any shop down the road ?  It is available in the stationery or(and) DIY shelves. I am talking of this one below,

cotton twine

I tried crocheting different things with these. Coasters, key chains , small bowls/desk tidies and even a cuff bracelet !!  Here are some of them.

I would love you to share what you have made with these if you have tried them.

These bowls have a fleece lining at the bottom both inside and outside both for firmness and  a soft feel.

    • Sure it is thrilling to create new and newer things. Crochet is an extremely versatile craft that can be used to make many things. I like to experiment with different types of thread and yarn.

  1. Awesome! I’ve got a lot of string left over from when I made macrame, if I’ve got a big enough hook I might try crocheting with some, but it might be a bit thick and stiff…and that coming from a hooker lol 😉

    • Thick and stiff is especially good for bowls 🙂 And if you have a lot leftover, you can make a fruit basket too. But is it the same string that you did macramé with ? The keyfob which I crocheted was pretty thick …good for a keyfob….but not so good for a keychain I feel, although I gave it a try. These I found are excellent for big sized coasters that can be used for heavier things like a tea pot. I have even made a long rectangle table runner for a glass table top . Unfortunately I dont have a picture of that. Options are many.
I would love to see your macramé work. NaBlopomo seems to beat the blogging lethargy off me 🙂

  3. Excellent example of thinking outside the box. I am only just starting to venture outside traditional yarns. I honestly never considered it before but I will be thinking of it all day now!!! I am glad I stumbled apon your web page.
ps. are you OK with being reblogged from time to time? I certainly am, in fact I love it but obviously I need to know if it is OK first! 🙂
